It is a sad, sad day for the fashion world! Alexander Wang is officially leaving the iconic brand, ‘Balenciaga.’ The brand confirmed on July 29, that the designer and brand made a joint decision to not renew Wang’s contract. Find out all the details here.
Alexander Wang, 31, has been the creative director of the famed fashion house, Balenciaga, since 2012, and sadly he has decided to officially part with the brand. He has always had his own clothing brand and has decided to further expand his own company and devote all of his energy into that. Find out all the details here.
We cannot believe this sad news, and it has come as such a shock. The French brand said in a statement to our sister site, WWD, on July 29, “Balenciaga and Alexander Wang today announce their joint decision not to renew their contract beyond its initial term.”
The show must go on — and the spring 2016 Balenciaga show, which will occur during Paris Fashion Week, on Oct. 2, will be Wang’s last.
Wang gushed about working with the iconic brand in a statement, “It’s been an incredible experience to work with a couture house in Paris. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth.”
The fashion house is just as sad as we are to see the designer go, saying in a statement, “Since 2012, Alexander Wang has stood at the creative helm of the maison and has been instrumental in the pursuit of its development. With his proven talent and his irreverent, modern vision of design, Alexander Wang has brought a new impetus to the brand.”
“Balenciaga and Kering would like to thank Alexander Wang for his accomplishments and wish him the very best with his eponymous brand as well as all his future endeavors.”
Wow, what sad news for fashion lovers everywhere! While we are sad to see him go, we know his final show is going to be a great one.
What do you guys think? Are you sad to see Alexander Wang go?
