The judges’ final questions of the Miss USA pageant always provide some interesting answers, but at this year’s show, two contestants in the Top 5 made pretty embarrassing flubs while giving their responses. Anea Garcia from Rhode Island and Brittany McGowan from Nevada both stumbled their way through their answers — find out what they said!
Olivia Jordan from Oklahoma was up first in the competition, and received a positive response from the audience for her response about the next major problem we need to fix in America. Ylianna Guerra, of Texas, also gave an endearing answer, but when the third finalist, Anea, hit the stage, things took a downward turn.
“Recently, comedian Jerry Seinfeld spoke out about political correctness in our culture,” the judge began. “Do you think political correctness is hurting or helping this country and why?” Although the 20-year-old kept a smile on her face, she immediately appeared nervous as she began forming her response.
“That’s a very good question,” she said. “I think that it’s a balance of both. We definitely need…I’m sorry, may you please repeat the question once more?” The judge asking the question, a former Miss USA winner, kept a positive attitude as she did just that, but things weren’t much better during Anea’s second go-ahead.
“I think that it’s a balance of both” she repeated, after a long pause. “We need the people to remind us, especially politicians, to remind us what to do and when to do wrong.” Unfortunately, at that moment, her 30 seconds were up, and she was unable to finish relaying her thoughts.
Mame Adjei, from Maryland, was up next, but when the fifth contestant, Brittany, was front and center, she also faltered. “What would you do to improve race relations in the U.S.?” she was asked. “Please be specific.” Despite going into the round confident (“Top 5?! I’m feeling great!” she told the judges), Brittany couldn’t quite get out what she wanted to say.
“What I would do to improve race relations in the U.S. is get more races grouped together and be able to be with each other in a…in a non…let’s see…” she began, awkwardly laughing. “I think what we need to do is bring…ahh…” Luckily, she closed the 30 second speech out with a comprehensible answer. “We need to be more accepting of each other and we need to bring people together. That’s what I think we need to do.”
The unfortunate flub for Miss Nevada came after another mistake earlier in the competition! During the Top 10 evening gown portion, she took a minor stumble while heading off the stage in her gorgeous, but super tight, dress. Luckily, she recovered from that one flawlessly, flashing a smile at the judges as if nothing happened at all.
At the end of the competition, Brittany and Anea came in fourth and third place, respectively. Not too shabby, regardless of their mistakes! HollywoodLifers, what did you think of the flubs?!
