Aw, here is it goes! Nearly 20 years ago, ‘Kenan and Kel’ premiered on Nickelodeon, making everyone laugh out loud and spit out their orange soda. And now, Kel. Is. Back.
Nickelodeon is where it all started for 36-year-old Kel Mitchell and the network has his middle name in it, so it’s only right to return. One half of Kenan and Kel, Kel will be returning to Nick for its new series, Game Shakers, where he plays “Double G.” So, serious question: does he like orange soda?
Kel is reuniting with Kenan & Kel producer, Dan Schneider for a new Nickelodeon show, Game Shakers, EW has confirmed. The show is all about two middle school girls who created a mobile music app, and are now creating a gaming company. Where does Kel come in? Well, he plays Double G, a rapper who threatens to sue the girls for stealing music, at first at least. Double G is a “a hip-hop mogul who is the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent,” as Kel puts it.
“I love playing such a wild character, because you will see some great physical comedy, but he also has heart; he is a single dad that loves his son, Triple G, played by the very talented Benjamin ‘Lil P-Nut’ Flores, Jr.,” he told the magazine. “There are so many layers to this character that it is one of those dream-come-true roles.”
Additionally, Kel admits that he really “fits in well” with the network. “It’s great to be back on the network that gave me my first big television job. It was an awesome network then and is still an awesome network. Now the whole family is excited to meet me — moms and dads quote my characters from the 90’s and their kids are quoting my current characters on Nickelodeon. … I’m ready to shake up the game again.”
Are you excited to see Kel back on TV?
