After that competition, we’re stuffed! So is Matt ‘The Megatoad’ Stonie, who took home the title after winning the 2015 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on July 4. Matt beat Joey Chestnut and all other challengers by eating 62 hot dogs in 10 minutes!
Somebody pass the ketchup and mustard! The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is a Fourth of July tradition, and this year’s event was packed to the brim – with talent! Out of all the competitive eaters looking to take home the crown and the $40,000 prize, it was Matt Stonie, 23, who bested them all and proved he is top dog!
One of the greatest competitive eating events once again took place on July 4, at the site of the first Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Stand in Coney Island, New York. Fans flocked to see how many of Nathan’s hot dogs could be devoured in just ten minutes and if any of the hungry contestants could break the record! Competitive eating enthusiasts were not disappointed!
The crowd on hand witnessed what has to be the biggest upset in the contest’s 43-year history! Most expected reigning champion Joey Chestnut to take home the gold once again, as he has ruled the Hot Dog Eating Contest since 2007. Still, Joey was graceful in his loss, giving props to Matt’s impressive victory.
Joey, arguably the greatest competitive eater alive, set a record in 2013, chomping down 69 hot dogs (and buns!), beating the record he set the year before by a single hot dog. He came close to setting the record in 2014 but only swallowed 61 of Nathan’s franks. That was still enough for him to score the victory. Joey was a winner even before he took his first bite – he proposed to his girlfriend before the contest and she said yes!
Happy Fourth of July, HollywoodLifers! What did you think about the competition? Leave your congratulations to the winner below!
