The Kardashian family has been through a LOT, but during a speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco on June 30, Kim Kardashian revealed that one of her family’s scariest life events happened long before the cameras started rolling. Shockingly, when Kylie Jenner was just a child, she was so sick, doctors thought she had a brain tumor!
Kim Kardashian, 34, frequents children’s hospitals, and during a Q&A on June 30, she revealed the shocking reason why the cause is so important to her. When the reality star was a teenager, her family went through a very scary medical crisis, during which doctors told them Kim’s younger sister, Kylie Jenner, now 17, might have a brain tumor!
“I was a teenager and I would have to watch Kylie while my mom was in the shower, for example,” Kim explained, during her interview with LaDoris Cordell at the Commonwealth Club of California. She added that Kylie was very sick during the unspecified time, and spent “around a month” in the hospital. Doctors even told the family they thought the now-17-year-old had a brain tumor!
Going through that experience with Kylie is what made Kim decide to get so involved with helping sick children. “I’m choosing to get involved in children’s hospitals,” she said. “You don’t have to have money to give back, and that is so much more meaningful — you can give your time.”
Kim Kardashian: Backlash For Speaking At Commonwealth Club
The Commonwealth Club is a prestigious venue, where famous spears like Martin Luther King Jr., Ronald Reagan and Franklin Roosevelt have all taken the stage. So, naturally, Kim received a bit of backlash when it was announced she would be showing up to discuss her book of selfies.
“We hear ya! Commonwealth Club and Inforum guests should strike a nerve from time to time,” Inforum ,the group who put on the conference, wrote on Facebook. “Agree or disagree with her, we’re looking forward to a spirited conversation and a different perspective. We expect to have a fun, insightful conversation with Kim and invite you to join us.”
Judge Cordell stood by the group’s controversial decision to bring Kim on board. “I don’t see her as beneath anyone,” she told the crowd. “I believe she has something to say.” And Kim really did discuss a LOT more than just Selfish. From gun control laws, to Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, things really did get down to the nitty gritty in the 45-minute Q&A!
