Demi Lovato Lashes Out At Critics: My New Song Is Not A Katy Perry Rip-Off

So Demi Lovato released her new song, ‘Cool For The Summer,’ on July 1 and it’s everything we hoped it’d be and more, but certain critics have accused it of being a rip off of Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl.’ And that is so NOT cool to Demi. See her heated reaction here!

We absolutely love Demi Lovato‘s new song “Cool For The Summer,” but there are a number of critics who not only think it sounds a lot like a Katy Perry or Jessie J song, but that it seems like a direct rip-off of 2008’s “I Kissed A Girl.” Demi got wind of this and lashed out on Twitter.


“sounds nothing like it and with all the advances we’ve made in the LGBT community…I think more than one female artist can kiss a girl and like it….. 😉” Demi, 22, wrote on her Twitter account in response to critics comparing the two songs.

Since the song’s release on July 1, it has skyrocketed to the top of iTunes, so it seems like fans are totally digging it — no matter what it reminds them of. If anything, “Cool For The Summer” is probably just an ode to the fabulous Katy Perry, rather than a rip-off.

Either way, Demi’s happy with her new song and her upcoming fifth album. “For this album, I’m making music that feels right to me,” Demi told MTV News on June 5. “This time around, I was able to explore different sounds, and hone in on something that I’m really proud of. I’m inspired by something every day so those experiences will definitely be reflected on my next album.”
