New summer jam alert! Cody Simpson has just dropped a brand new single, ‘Happy Lil’ Hippie’ and, as the title suggests, it’s the perfect upbeat tune to play along with all your warm weather festivities. Listen now!
Talk about a Tuesday pick-me-up! On June 30, singer-songwriter Cody Simpson, 18, released a brand new track off his upcoming album, Free. The newest record, which will be available on July 10, is Cody’s third studio album and, if this latest cut is any indication, it might just be his best yet. Listen to the single, called “Happy Lil’ Hippie”– and then, even better, find out Cody’s inspiration for the song which is about, well, one particularly happy little hippie!
“She says she don’t like the news,” Cody croons in the first lyrics of the gorgeous song. “It’s all bad, it’s all sad, it turns her brown eyes blue,” he continues. As it turns out, those lyrics are not abstract, but actually, they are based upon a girl whom Cody met at one point, who obviously had quite the effect on the golden-throated dude.
“I wrote the song about a girl I met on the street in Venice Beach,” Cody told Billboard. “She had this whole bohemian look to her. After sharing some conversation with her, I realized that we shared a lot of the same views on life, and on the world… She was so non-conformist and so happy, and just lived her life the way she wanted to,” he added.
Well, listening to the soothing strumming featured on this song, along with the jubilant lyrics, we have to say Cody’s description of that little lady matches the tune pretty accurately!
What do you think of “Happy Lil’ Hippie?” Is it your new summer jam or is it just meh?
