This is pretty shocking. Funny lady Amy Schumer has just revealed that she was actually offered the role of ‘Daily Show’ host– and she turned it down. Find out why!
Amy Schumer is everywhere lately, but one place you won’t see her is hosting The Daily Show. Amy’s current show, Inside Amy Schumer, already runs on Comedy Central, so her lateral move between shows on the net would have made sense, and yet, hosting duties ultimately went to relative unknown, Trevor Noah. Though it was rumored that Amy (as well as a few other high profile celebs) were made offers to replace outgoing host Jon Stewart, the Trainwreck star has now confirmed that she was in fact offered the gig, and she’s also opening up about why she said “no thank you.”
“I was so honored to be asked and considered,” Amy told The Daily Beast. “With Comedy Central, I project so much ‘You’re my parents!’ on the network and the people that run it, so them saying, ‘We believe in you and trust that you can do this,’ I thought, ‘Oh my god, thank you!’”
However, despite that high praise, Amy opted not to accept the gig– for a somewhat surprising reason. “And then I thought, ‘Well, I could give everyone I love a job and we could all be together for five years,” she said. “But picturing being in a building and knowing what I was going to do for five years—I love not knowing. And I’ve never done anything safe or to make money for that reason. So, you know, I said, ‘I can’t start now.’”
Well, while it would have been insanely interesting to see what Amy would do with Daily Show duties, we’re just as excited to see what she has in store for us on her own! Trainwreck hits theaters on July 17, and Inside Amy Schumer continues to shock and empower audiences, every Tuesday on Comedy Central.
