Let her be your star. ‘Bombshell,’ the musical within the musical on NBC’s late series ‘Smash,’ is officially headed to the stage. So, would series star Megan Hilty want to be involved? She spilled her blonde ambitions EXCLUSIVELY to us!
Smash is back in the spotlight– literally! The NBC drama, which depicted the creation of a musical based upon the life of Marilyn Monroe called Bombshell, has recently found new life since its cancellation in 2013. On June 22, the series’ producers announced that they would in fact be moving forward with plans to put Bombshell on the stage in a full-scale production, and no one is more excited about that than Smash star Megan Hilty. The talented gal chatted with us EXCLUSIVELY about whether she’d like to be involved in the stage production, as well as her relationship with former costar Katharine McPhee!
“I absolutely would like to be involved with Bombshell,” Megan told us at the Bremont Opening party in NYC on June 23. “I’m hoping I’ll get an audition!” she added. Uh, Megan, you’ll get an audition– we’ve all heard you sing “Don’t Forget Me.” Please.
Even if she isn’t ultimately a part of the musical, though, Megan is grateful that it’s happening at all. “It’s just so great to know that there’s an audience way past cancellation,” she said. “People have been catching on since we went off the air, so it’s nice to have something for them to come see.”
The announcement of a full out Bombshell production comes on the heels of a one-night only Bombshell concert, which reunited nearly the entire cast of the short-lived series. On June 8, Megan and Katharine stepped back in to their Marilyns and, to say the least, it was a huge success. In fact, tickets to the event, which benefited The Actors Fund, sold out in presale within one hour.
For fans, the gift of the concert was self evident. For Megan, it had an added layer of meaning. “It was awesome, especially being together with Kat again,” she said. “We got very close on that show so it was nice to have a week when we were rehearsing together and sharing a dressing room. It was just so great to see her again.”
Well, it was great for us to see you both again, too. Here’s to hoping we’ll be doing a whole lot more of that in the near future.
Are you excited to see Bombshell on the stage? Do you hope Megan plays Marilyn?
