Well, that was close! After an eight-month love affair, Britney Spears called it quits with Charlie Ebersol. However, HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned the duo were just a hair away from making it official with a walk down the aisle prior to parting ways.
Britney Spears, 33, almost became a bride for the third time. But before Charlie Ebersol, 32, could put a ring on it, the “Pretty Girls” singer decided to end things with her TV producer beau. Brit’s father Jamie Spears, 62, apparently had a big hand in the couple’s split — finding Charlie unworthy of his superstar daughter. Without dad’s approval, it’s no surprise Mr. Ebersol never got down on one knee — even though he desperately wanted Britney’s hand in marriage. Read on for all of the EXCLUSIVE details!
“Britney and Charlie were a second away from becoming engaged. She loved him and he loved her. Charlie was just a great guy,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He was great to Britney and her two children [Sean, 9, and Jayden, 7]. He treated them all with love, kindness and respect. He seemed like The One.” Wait — so what happened, then? It all seemed so perfect!
“Britney, of course, talked to Jamie about it. She runs everything by him and values his opinion,” our insider reveals about what halted the pair’s plans to wed. “Jamie didn’t like the idea and convinced her not to go forward.” Major buzzkill.
For a moment, it seemed like Britney had already found herself a rebound relationship to distract herself from the breakup blues. Hanging out in her home state of Louisiana with a 22-year-old college hottie by the name of Harris Beall, the pop queen appeared more content than ever in a sweet, June 21 Instagram shot. However, the romance vibes were nothing but a false alarm. Sigh.
Harris told Access Hollywood about his chance encounter with the 33-year-old — and how they’re nothing more than acquaintances. The dockhand at The Prop Stop in Ponchatoula, LA, said he met the blonde beauty when she, her little sis, Jamie Lynn Spears, 24, came by his work for lunch.
“Later that day, I was walking down the dock and Britney said, ‘Can I take a picture with you?’ because she liked my shirt,” Harris explained. “I’m a typical college football player. I work at a bar down by the river and was asked to take a picture with Britney Spears. Britney and I are not affiliated with each other at all.” One day, Britney’s prince will come. And his name isn’t Harris — or Charlie!
