Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is here, and in case you didn’t know, he’s only 19! But how did he start his career? Where did he come from? Don’t worry, we’re filling you in on everything you need to know about Tom Holland.
Following in the steps of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, it’s clear that Tom Holland has big shoes to fill as the younger version of Spider-Man in the upcoming films. However, how much do you really know about the actor? Let’s just start with the fact that he’s an award winner, and he went to school at the same school Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Jessie J went at. That’s a good start right?
2. In June 2008, he landed the role as Michael, Billy’s best friend in Billy Elliot the Musical. Then just three months later, he made his debut as the lead role, Billy. However, in 2013 he revealed that while he can still dance, he’s a terrible singer.
3. He rolls with the big dogs! In 2012, he starred in The Impossible alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. He was honored at the National Board of Review that year as the Breakthrough Actor of the Year. He was also cast as Young Nickerson in Ron Howard‘s In the Heart of the Sea, where he’ll star alongside Chris Hemsworth later this year.
4. He’s a mama’s boy! “I completely and utterly rely on my mum. Without my mum, I would not be anywhere at all. I’d literally just be a couch potato,” he said in an interview with Teen Vogue in 2013. Well, apparently she had a great influence on him.
5. You’ll actually see him in a different movie, before a stand-alone Spidey film. He’ll star as Spider-Man in the 2016 film, Captain America: Civil War, before his 2017 movie.
