Admit it: you’ve noticed a resemblance. Hilarious human Maya Rudolph has been getting a lot of comparisons to Rachel Dolezal lately, and when she stopped by ‘Late Night,’ she basically showed everyone why.
On June 22, Maya Rudolph said what we were all thinking: she needs to play Rachel Dolezal on Saturday Night Live. However, as Maya also pointed out when she dropped by Late Night, she hasn’t been a cast member on the sketch show since 2007– but that hasn’t stopped everyone from telling her it still needed to happen. Well, Maya gave the people what they wanted, and it is quite literally the funniest thing you’ll see all week. Trust us. Watch it now!
“When you leave SNL, sometimes things will happen in the news and people will say, ‘oh my God, it’s such a shame that you’re not there,'” Seth Meyers said. “You have to have been getting this a lot lately.”
Sure enough, she has. “It’s been happening on a daily basis with Rachel Dolezal,” Maya said. She explained that it’s a totally unavoidable phenomenon, and actually referenced the same thing happening to Tina Fey when Sarah Palin came onto the scene.
To set up the impression, Seth first played that now-infamous interview where Rachel was asked, in no uncertain terms, if she was African American. Maya and Seth reenact the interview, with Seth playing the reporter and Maya, of course, playing Rachel. However, before they can begin the bit, Maya puts the finishing touch on her physical appearance: a wig perfectly styled to look like Rachel’s. She puts it on, leaving her hair out at the bottom and it’s one of the best visual gags, like, ever.
The two then reenact the interview pretty much verbatim and it is, in a word, perfect.
What do you think of Maya’s impression of Rachel? Do you see the resemblance?
