Can’t nobody hold him down. Diddy was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon (a kettlebell) on June 22, after he allegedly got into a physical fight with his son’s college football coach, Sal Alosi, at UCLA, a new report claims. Find out all the details here!
Diddy, 45, was arrested on June 22 for allegedly getting into a physical fight with Sal Alosi, a football coach at UCLA, where his son is on the team, a new report claims. Justin Combs, who is a defensive back on the team, was reportedly getting yelled at during a strength and conditioning session on June 21, and Diddy didn’t like it. The next day, the rapper reportedly took matters into his own hands — with a kettlebell.
Diddy was taken into custody early Monday morning, which police have confirmed to HollywoodLife.com, after he allegedly confronted the coach in his office and went after him with a kettlebell, according to TMZ and UCLA Newsroom. Diddy was then arrested on suspicion for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail at L.A. County Jail was set at $50,000, according to The Los Angeles Times.
Apparently, the unidentified coach “was riding Justin [on Sunday], screaming intensely at him,” and told him not to come back until the end of the summer, a source told TMZ. Before his arrest on June 22, Diddy actually wanted to call police himself, the source said, but his phone was allegedly taken out of his hands. Sources told TMZ that Diddy was acting in self defense and was not the aggressor.
Football coach Jim Mora issued the following statement:
“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
Earlier this year, Diddy was accused of getting into another physical altercation. The rapper hosted a Super Bowl party in Phoenix, Arizona — but his presence at the party wasn’t enough for one party-goer. A fan named Steven Donaldson berated Diddy for not performing at the party, and a confrontation ensued. A video showed their altercation, but it cut out after Steven started cussing Diddy out. It was then that the fan said Diddy punched him. It’s unclear if charges were ever pressed against the rapper.
UPDATE: A rep for Diddy has released the following statement:
“The various accounts of the event and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate. What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son. We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed.”
