Kim Kardashian may love her donuts, but now that’s she feeding an extra mouth, she needs to be mindful of her diet and maintain a healthy weight gain during her pregnancy. HollywoodLife.com spoke with a top health and fitness guru who explains why the reality star must avoid putting on too many pounds while carrying her second child.
When Kim Kardashian, 34, was pregnant with North West, she gained an estimated 50 plus pounds. Health and fitness expert Lisa DeFazio, M.S.,R.D., explains to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that this was way too much weight to put on and that this time around she must maintain a healthy weight gain or she could put both her health and her babies’ health in jeopardy.
Gaining too much weight puts both mommy and baby in danger, says Lisa. “It’s important that Kim avoid a huge weight gain with this pregnancy because it can lead to high blood pressure which can lead to preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes. This is harmful for both mother and child. It means the baby is getting too much sugar, which is unhealthy.”
Lisa looked at before and after photos of Kim, and explains that too much weight can lead a variety of problems and can make losing weight after birth much more challenging. “Studying photos of Kim, she looks to have gained 55lbs from her first pregnancy with North. Prior to her pregnancy she looked to weight 130lbs and just five days before her delivery she looked to weight 185lbs. Being pregnant is not an excuse to eat everything in sight. If a woman is at a healthy weight, she needs to only gain between 25-35lbs.”
Kim has been struggling with morning sickness which can be minimized by following some healthy tips. “To help with the morning sickness, I suggest eating before getting out of bed. She should leave some saltines by her bedside and eat some crackers before she even gets up to settle her stomach,” Lisa advises. “Kim should avoid greasy foods like bacon, hash browns, etc, as they will be hard on her digestion and could trigger vomiting. If she does not want to eat, she can try drinking an ice cold try protein shake in the morning. Kim should eat three meals a day and an afternoon and evening snack. She should eat every four hours.”

Kim could also face serious health problems if she consumes too much salt! “Kim’s ongoing nausea may be due in part to high blood pressure. She did suffer from preeclampsia when she was pregnant with North. Preeclampsia is high blood pressure induced by pregnancy. If not recognized and treated, the condition can progress to eclampsia, the occurrence of convulsions that can lead to coma and can be life-threatening for both mother and child,” Lisa explains emphasizing the dangers of too much sodium in a pregnant woman’s body. “Kim should have a low sodium diet. Sodium holds onto water in the body which causes bloating, and can increase blood volume therefore placing more pressure on arteries thus increasing blood pressure. She should avoid salt, which can be replaced with herbs, spices, and Mrs. Dash.”
Overall, Lisa says Kim needs to put her career on the back burner and focus on herself! “Kim needs to RELAX! Stress raises blood pressure. Prenatal yoga is perfect, maybe walk or do the treadmill at a comfortable pace.Her nutritionist will limit calories as well, if she gains as much weight as her first pregnancy the blood pressure will go up. This time around she has to do things much differently! No fast food, no fries, no junk, and the focus should be the pregnancy, not what she will wear and where she will promote herself. This is serious and all the money in the world cannot replace your child!”
