Everyone’s talking about the diet that made Beyonce slimmer and sexier than ever, but is becoming a vegan, at least for her 22 day challenge, good for you? Will it make you lose weight? A registered dietitian breaks it down.
Beyonce, 33, announced a new vegan meal delivery service on Good Morning America on June 8, and even though Bey swears it’s the only diet that actually works for her “curvy” body, will it work for us?
Amanda Foti, a Registered Dietitian for Selvera.com, tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY: “In general, avoiding processed foods, limiting animal products and increasing plant-based foods in your diet has been shown to improve cardiovascular health, glucose control, cholesterol levels, increase energy levels, support healthy weight loss, and reduce risk of developing chronic diseases. However, to reap the benefits, these diet changes must be sustained long term.”
Amanda says you will most likely lose weight…but it might come back once you stop being so restrictive (the diet recommends cutting soy, meat, alcohol and gluten): “Any restrictive diet will cause weight loss, including eating vegan. A healthy weight loss rate that won’t disrupt your metabolism is losing on average of 1-2 lbs. per week. To be successful in keeping the weight off, be prepared to adopt these restrictions long term. Once the diet is over and you go back to old eating habits, the weight will come back, just like any other short term diet.”
It also costs about $600 for 3 meals a day for 22 days — eek!
Bey said on GMA: “I’m not naturally the thinnest woman. I have curves. I have struggled since a young age with diets. Finding something that actually works and keeps the weight off has been difficult for me.”

Amanda says: “The 21-day habit change theory is supported by little to no scientific evidence. Habit change may be achieved in 21 days for simple actions such as flossing your teeth every morning. For complex behaviors, such as eating patterns, this takes several months of commitment and sometimes even the consistent support and guidance from an expert.”
