WNBA stars, Glory Johnson and wife Brittney Griner may compete on the basketball court, but they won’t be this upcoming season, because the pair are expecting their first child together! Glory will take the 2015 season off, in order to carry their precious little one. How wonderful!
Such great news!
Glory happily shared the baby announcement on her Instagram on June 4 with a pic of an oven shaped cake with a tiny little bun on the door. She captioned the snap, “😍😍😍 #SUCCESS #BLESSED#WelcomeToTheJohnsonGrinerFamily.” So beyond adorable.
“It has always been a dream of mine to start a family with someone I love,” Glory said in a statement released by her team (the Shock) ahead of their home opener. “Being a professional athlete that plays year round, there is never a perfect time to get pregnant without putting my career on hold.”
She went on to say, “The entire process, from learning our fertility options, to making sacrifices necessary nine months before the child is born, is merely preparing me to become a great wife and an even better mother.”
Her wife Brit, who plays center for the Phoenix Mercury, will continue to play ball while Glory takes the season off to carry their bundle of joy.
The happy baby news comes after a rough patch Brittney and Glory had back in April 2015. The pair were arrested on suspicion of assault and disorderly conduct, two weeks before they had gotten married. Due to the incident, Brittney began domestic violence counseling and after completion, the charges against her will be dropped. Glory also volunteered for counseling.
“It is never OK for an argument to turn physical,” Brittney had said in a statement to the press. “This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously.”
We’re just glad it’s behind them and we wish them all the luck in the world on their new journey!
