’19 Kids & Counting’ fans are still shocked by Josh Duggar’s molestation scandal. Now, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have given their first interview since the news broke, speaking with Megyn Kelly on the June 3 episode of ‘The Kelly File.’
It’s been nearly two weeks since fans of 19 Kids & Counting learned that Josh Duggar, 27, molested five underage girls while he was a teenager. In their first interview since the scandal broke, Michelle Duggar, 48, and husband, Jim Bob Duggar, 49, sat down with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly, 44, on the June 3 episode of The Kelly File. The heads of the Duggar household spoke about their son and how his “terrible” actions “violated God’s principles” — and how they learned to forgive him.
During this talk, Michelle and Jim Bob addressed the InTouch report that revealed the 2006 investigation into Josh molesting five underage girls while they were staying at the Duggar home. Jim Bob told Megyn, “Years ago, we went through one of the darkest times our family has every gone through.”
Dark, indeed. The reality TV couple opened up about the harrowing details of a 14-year-old Josh’s indiscretions with the Lord and how it affected their family. “Our son violated God’s principles by doing improper touching,” Josh’s father said. “What Josh did was inexcusable, but it was not unforgivable.”
“There was so much grief in our hearts,” Michelle explained of Josh’s candid confession to groping his younger sisters, including Jessa Duggar, 22, and Jill Duggar, 24. The “improper touching” of the couple’s first-born really took a hit to Michelle’s confidence as a mom. “As parents, we felt like failures. Here, we tried to raise our parents to know what’s right and to know what’s wrong,” Michelle tearfully revealed.
This isn’t the first time the Duggars spoke about their son molesting five little girls. They released joint statements with Josh and his wife, Anna Duggar, on May 21. Michelle and Jim Bob said that Josh put his family “through one of the most difficult times of [their] lives,” and that while “he made some bad mistakes,” they “tried to teach him right from wrong.”
We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles everyday. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God’s kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so undeserving.
Michelle and Jim Bob’s interview may have left viewers with some unanswered questions. Those wanting more will have to tune into the one-hour special, airing on July 5 at 9pm on Fox News.
For some, seeing the Duggars on television is the last thing they want. After TLC ran a 19 Kids & Counting marathon the same day that Josh’s scandal broke, fans demanded that TLC cancel the show. While 19 Kids & Counting have yet to be cancelled, TLC has pulled it completely from its programming.
