While gun control continues to be a national hot topic, one celeb has taken a firm stance on the issue — and it’s pretty shocking! Yep, we’re talking about Vince Vaughn and his honest admission, revealing that he thinks guns should be in schools. Say what?!
Vince Vaughn, 45, wants to make one thing very clear: he is a huge advocate for the right to bear arms. In a new interview with British GQ, the actor opened up about his opinions point-blank, stating that he feels U.S. citizens should be able to bring a gun anywhere they go — even at schools! Read on for all of the highlights from Vince’s incredibly candid chat with the mag.
“Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality,” the True Detective star told the UK outlet, in an interview published on June 1.
“In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these f——ing schools because they know there are no guns there,” Vince surprisingly added. Okay, trying to see your point here, V! So…please explain?
“I support people having a gun in public full stop, not just in your home. We don’t have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government,” he clarified.
Vince, who is vehemently libertarian, has shown support for the rights of citizens to protect themselves with weapons in the past. He has even publicly championed former presidential candidate, Ron Paul, a huge proponent for the legal ownership of guns. Fair enough. But in schools, though? #SMH.
“It’s not about duck hunting; it’s about the ability of the individual. It’s the same reason we have freedom of speech. It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back,” the 45-year-old concluded on, firmly standing behind his beliefs.
Well, those are certainly some unique ideas, sir! HollywoodLifers — how do YOU feel about Vince’s thoughts concerning gun control? Let us know!
