‘The X-Files’ fans are already going crazy over the original cast returning for a six new episodes. But now, David Duchovny has revealed in a new interview that it actually could be more than one season!
With David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis are all returning to Fox for a reboot of The X-Files, and it’s actually been in the works for two years, David just revealed. Many have assumed the reboot would be a miniseries, but he’s actually open to more! In a new interview, he dives into the surprising reaction he had when reading the script, plus, what he’s dreading about filming!
‘The X-Files’ Reboot: Will There Be A Season 2?
“I would be open to doing another cycle,” David told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don’t know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn’t bring it back with the idea of ending it.”
Well that’s amazing and we don’t even want to think about an end to it. It’s not surprising that he’s so committed — he revealed that when he read the first page of the script, he started crying!
“It was just so strange to see the names on the page,” David said. “It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I’d been talking about this for a long time. We’d been planning it for a long time. It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. So let’s say two years we’ve been talking about doing it. Now it’s the fun part. Now we actually get to do it. That was nice and strangely emotional for me, and I’ll have to figure out how to use that [in the performance]. I can tell you absolutely nothing—and it’s fantastic.”
David’s Not So Ready For 4AM
Ugh, while we need more, I guess we’ll have to wait. Speaking of, there’s only one thin that David’s not looking forward to this time around: “Probably running through the forest at four in the morning.”
He also said that this upcoming season will be more “like a six-hour movie” — which we’re totally in for.
The X-Files reboot will hit Fox in January 2016. Do you want more than six episodes? Let us know!
