Melissa Rivers has kept quiet since Kathy Griffin announced her decision to leave ‘Fashion Police’ in March…until now! Joan Rivers’ daughter SLAMMED the comedienne for the way she quit the show, telling Hoda Kotb that Kathy ‘s— on my mother’s legacy.’ Watch the video to hear her shocking comments!
The Fashion Police drama is heating up! Melissa Rivers, 47, finally broke her silence on Kathy Griffin’s, 54, exit from the show, and she did NOT hold back. Melissa even brought her mother, the late Joan Rivers, into the conversation when she blasted Kathy in an interview with Hoda Kotb. You HAVE to read what she said!
Melissa Rivers Disses Kathy Griffin After ‘Fashion Police’ Exit: ‘She S— On My Mother’s Legacy’
“I’m just gonna say it wasn’t a match on a lot of levels,” Melissa said of the short-lived host, who only filmed seven episodes for the E! show.
And while it doesn’t seem like the executive producer has a problem with Kathy as a person, she wasn’t thrilled at all about the way she announced her decision, and said that the red head’s statement “s— on my mother’s legacy.” WHOA!
“I thought that I could bring my brand of humor to Fashion Police so that beautiful people in beautiful dresses could be teased when appropriate,” the comedienne wrote, of her exit. “My brand of humor, while unrepentant and unafraid, is all about CONTEXT. There is plenty to make fun of in pop culture without bringing people’s bodies into it.” She added, “I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards indifference.”
And here’s what Melissa had to say: “My biggest complaint was the feeling that she kind of s— all over my mother’s legacy in her statement on leaving. And I know that was not an intentional reading of it, but that’s how I felt… by calling the comedy and style of it old-fashioned. It was like, I understand what you were doing, you’re trying to save yourself, but don’t crap all over my mother to do it.”
Melissa Rivers Dishes On Future Of ‘Fashion Police’
Fashion Police went through a major rough patch after the Oscars, when Giuliana Rancic was slammed for her comments about Zendaya’s hair. As a result, Kelly Osbourne quit the show, followed by Kathy, and E! put it on hiatus until later this year.
Melissa also opened up about the controversy, and explained why she felt things spun out of control so quickly like they did.
“We were a family, cast and crew…and we went back too soon,” she said. “And just like a family, when the matriarch dies, the sisters started fighting; and someone tried to marry in — not a great match, live and learn. Fashion Police was a little jewel and it was the last piece I had of my mother…I felt like all those people were so out of control, including the person who made the allegation about racism. They took the last thing I had and smashed it.”
HollywoodLifers, do you think Melissa’s comments about Kathy were warranted?
