That one hurt. We’ve arrived at night one of the ‘American Idol’ finale– and the episode was intense. Along with a contestant being sent home, our top two were revealed and sang for the nation’s vote one last time!
Heartbreaking. After months and months of drama and incredible performances, on the May 12 episode of American Idol, our top two contestants were finally revealed, following a devastating elimination. It came down to Jax, Clark Beckham and Nick Fradiani but, as we know, one of them did not make it to the May 13 finale episode. Who went home? And who’s looking like the frontrunner heading into tomorrow’s big finale? Check out a full recap!
‘American Idol’: Jax Eliminated — May 12 Recap
I am freaking devastated. Literally beyond words upset. And her montage is making me bawl my eyes out. Well, we power on right?
Ugh, you guys I am so sad. Okay moving on for real.
Clark goes first, reprising his performance of “George On My Mind.” It’s definitely appropriately melancholy. It helps that this is one of the greatest songs ever written. (Full disclosure, totally mourning the loss of Jax still).
Up next, obviously, it’s Nick singing “Bright Lights” by Matchbox Twenty. It’s of course right in his wheelhouse and it remains his best performance to date. What else is there to say? It’s phenomenal.
Next up, Clark takes on an Idol classic, “Ain’t No Sunshine.” I won’t lie, Kris Allen sorta owns this song on the Idol stage as far as I’m concerned, but dammit if Clark isn’t giving him a run for his money. He’s transitioned from piano to guitar and it’s just smooth as buttah. I think the look in Jennifer Lopez‘s eyes says it all.
Next, Nick sings Jason Mraz‘s “I Won’t Give Up.” This might be one of my favorite of his recent performances. His voice sounds so powerful– and I don’t mind those close ups. Nope, don’t mind ’em at all. Oh, and it was the first time he’s ever played piano on the show. Okay, so these boys are both in it to win it, eh?
Oh, and on another note– our favorite diva at the judging table has announced that she’s beginning a Las Vegas residency! Hey girl heyyyy!
For the final rounds, each guy sings what they will release as their “victory” song. Clark’s is called “Champion.” Not gonna lie, this song is right up my alley. He sounds very One Republic. It’s epic and uplifting and I love it. No you’re the one downloading it on iTunes right now not me, what are you talking about?
Finally, the last performance of the season, Nick sings his original song called “Beautiful Life.” It’s equally as uplifting as Clark’s but a little less epic. However, as far as actual songs I’d like to hear on the radio go, this one definitely trumps the former. But hey, selling an original song ain’t easy– good luck to both of these guys in the real world!
As far as who’s in the lead after tonight, I guess I’d say Nick, but really it could go either way!
What do you guys think of tonight’s performances? Are you as sad as I am to see Jax go? Who do you think has the edge going into tomorrow’s finale?
