It’s not just the fans who are heartbroken about Nina Dobrev leaving ‘TVD.’ In a brand new interview, creator Julie Plec revealed that she did everything she could to try and get her to stay!
When Nina Dobrev revealed she was leaving The Vampire Diaries, fans of the show were absolutely crushed — what would Mystic Falls be without Elena (or one of the other 18 characters Nina played)? That’s exactly what Julie Plec was wondering!
Nina Dobrev Leaving ‘The Vampire Diaries’ — Julie Plec Begged Her To Stay
“Nina had said earlier this year that she wanted to be done and we spent a little bit of time trying to talk her out of it,” Julie said during a KCRW podcast on April 29. “[We’d say,] ‘Oh, look at all these great plans of how you can stay!’ And she finally was like, ‘No, I signed up for six years. I’ve done my six years. I’m ready to move on and spread my wings.'”
Now that (spoiler alert) Elena is human on The Vampire Diaries, we’re all wondering how her story will end. So with just two episodes left, fans have been speculating that she’ll leave town or possibly be killed. Either way, she’ll be exploring different options.
“She was just looking forward to moving on with no hard feelings and no drama,” Julie said. “This is taking the personal out of it completely, from a storytelling point of view it’s a great challenge. As writers in the room we’re finding it very rejuvenating. Just on a strictly creative exercise level.”
Julie Took A Page From ‘The Good Wife’
The creator also added that after seeing other shows like The Good Wife kill off a main character without letting the fans know, they decided to break the news on Instagram on April 6, more than a month before her last episode would air.
“A lot of our audience — they’re still teenagers — and there is a profound attachment to this character and to this show,” she said. “I started looking at it from a fan point of view and being like, ‘We need to tell them that it’s happening before it happens. You can’t just end the season and do what we’re going to do to this character.’ As a fan I would die. I would be devastated.”
Well, it still sucks for us fans! However, we totally get that Nina wants to spread her wings and we love that she’s being honest. What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you sad to see Nina go?
