Some fans may find it strange that Sia still never shows her face at public events, and instead wears her signature blonde wig to cover it. In the latest issue of Interview magazine, Sia rocks her biggest wig yet – and reveals why she steers clear of fame.
In a new interview, Sia, 39, opens up to pal, Kristen Wiig, 41, revealing that she constantly makes an effort to maintain a sense of anonymity although she’s a platinum-selling pop star. While she loves making music, the native Australian says the fame that comes along with success in the music biz actually scares her – especially the criticism part of it!
Sia & Kristen Wiig Interview: Pop Star Reveals ‘Fame F–ks With Her Sanity’ In Magazine
Sia, who had Kristen Wiig perform on stage with Dance Moms‘ Maddie Ziegler while she belted out her hit “Chandelier” at this year’s Grammy Awards quickly became friends with the SNL vet and opened up to her about her fear of fame in the new issue of Interview magazine.
“[Fame] literally f–ks with my sanity,” Sia revealed to Kristen. “I stop feeling authentic because I’m trying to find ways to say the same thing differently. And after a while, you can’t. It becomes bad for my self-esteem.”
With a voice like Sia’s, how on earth could you focus on anything else?
The singer, who doesn’t want to take any risks and hides her face behind wigs, elaborates: “I’m not willing to give up my actual self…Music is for your ears, not your eyes, right?…I want you to be entertained. I want you to get the full package. I’d just rather it not center around whether or not I have cellulite.”
Not Your Average Pop Star
As one could imagine, Sia, who’s been making music since the ’90s, quickly became tired of the traditional celebrity lifestyle and wanted nothing to do with Hollywood.
“I was excited because I got invited to these big, fancy parties,” she says of going to this year’s Grammy Awards. “And then you realize, ‘If I’m going to go, I’m going to need to get a tan. I’m going to need to have my roots done. I’m going to have extensions, probably. I’m going to get a stylist for sure. I’m going to have to work out five times that week with Jennifer Aniston’s trainer.’ This is commerce and I’m $5,000 in the hole just to go to a party.”
