After Cristie Codd, a finalist during the eighth season of Food Network Star and her husband Joseph “JT” Codd went missing on March 15, police have arrested main suspect Robert Owens for their murder. Robert, a neighbor of the family, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder including the murder of the couples’ unborn child.
‘Food Network Star’ Murder: Man Arrested For Killing Contestant Cristie Codd
Cristie, 38, and JT, 45, are believed to have been killed on March 12, though police haven’t yet revealed any information on where their bodies were found. However, two bodies found in a burning cabin not far from their North Carolina home could belong to the missing couple, according to our sister site Deadline.
In addition to being charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Robert has also been charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and the murder of an unborn child, according to Yahoo. The site also reports that Robert also stole a laptop computer, jewelry and a handgun from their house.
Robert, 36, was reportedly a handyman who had done construction work at Cristie and JT’s home. He also has a hefty criminal record — Robert is also the prime suspect in the disappearance of a former co-worker, who was 18 at the time.
Cristie, who competed on the Food Network show in 2012, reportedly ran a food catering business while JT worked as a key grip in the film industry.
Robert is currently being held at the county jail.
Our thoughts go out to the Codd family and their loved ones during this difficult time.
