Wow! Kathy is stepping down as the host of ‘Fashion Police’ after just seven episodes. She took to Twitter on March 12 to share the shocking news with her fans — and to post a lengthy rant about how the show promotes ‘unattainable perfectionism’ and ‘intolerance towards difference.’ Yikes!
Kathy Griffin‘s departure comes less than two weeks after her co-host Kelly Osbourneleft Fashion Police following Giuliana Rancic‘s controversial remarks about Zendaya‘s Oscars dreadlocks. With two key players gone from the show, we have to wonder whether it’s going to be cancelled altogether now! Here’s what we know.
Kathy Griffin Quits ‘Fashion Police’ & Disses Show As Intolerant
Kathy, 54, took Fashion Police fans by surprise on March 12 when she took to her Twitter and Instagram accounts to reveal that she was quitting the show.
“I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on,” she wrote in a long post, which you can read in full below.
Wow. Even though Kathy says she wishes E! the best, it sounds like she has a lot of issues with one of its biggest shows. “I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference,” she writes in her explanation.
Could her decision to leave the show be fueled in part by Guiliana’s comments about Zendaya’s Oscars dreadlocks smelling of “patchouli” or “weed?” That certainly appears to be the reason why her fellow host Kelly quit, and Kathy’s words about “intolerance towards difference” seem to suggest that she didn’t like the way the incident was handled either.
When asked about Giuliana’s comment in a recent interview with the Chicago Sun-Times, Kathy replied, “I wouldn’t have said the joke in the first place. Some dude wrote it for her.”
E! released the following statement on Kathy leaving.
We can confirm that Kathy Griffin is leaving E!’s “Fashion Police.” We wish her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as well as the many laughs that she gave us all. “Fashion Police” will return, as scheduled, on Monday, March 30 at 9pm with our talented Co-Hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski and Executive Producer Melissa Rivers. No further information is available at this time.
It looks like Fashion Police is safe for now but we can’t see it surviving for too long after the year it’s had. First Joan Rivers, then Kelly, and now Kathy — so many harsh blows!
