Michelle Rodriguez’s Apology: Clarifies Minorities Are “Stealing” White Roles
Michelle has definitely taken the highroad after she said some seriously offensive comments on Feb. 28. The stunner was caught by TMZ saying, “the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” when asked if she would play the Green Lantern, Followed by, “It’s so stupid, it’s like, ‘Stop stealing all the white people’s superheroes’ … make up your own. You know what I’m saying?”
After pondering her comments, Michelle took to Facebook to clear the air and revealed what she really meant to say. “I have a tendency to speak without a filter. Sorry about that. What I really meant was ultimately, at the end of the day, there’s a language, and the language that you speak in Hollywood is successful franchise,” Michelle said. “I think that there are many cultures in Hollywood that are not white that can come up with their own mythology.”
She continued, “I’m just saying that instead of trying to turn a girl character into a guy or instead of trying to turn a white character into a black character or a Latin character, I think that people should stop being lazy and that people should actually make an effort in Hollywood to develop their own mythology.”
Michelle then revealed that this is something that she is going to think about as she plans her upcoming projects.
She said, “I’m taking it to heart as well. I’m considering this as I am out there coming up with projects to do and things to write. I just think it’s time to stop trying to take what’s already there and fit a culture into it, I think it’s time for us to write our own mythology and our own story, every culture.”
