Usher, 36, finally confirmed what we already knew — he’s engaged to his friend, partner, and manager, Grace Miguel — during his emotional acceptance speech at The BET Honors, which aired on Feb. 23. The Musical Arts Award winner also promised his fans that they haven’t seen anything yet and they should “stay tuned.”
Usher Confirms Engagement — Thanks Fiancee Grace Miguel At The BET Honors
“We lack motivation, we lack role models. I was one of those kids who didn’t have a father, but my heavenly father was always there,” Usher said during his raw and moving speech.
Usher also took time to thank his mentors: Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, and L.A. Reid, who helped him achieve success. “You do what you love until somebody honors you,” he said. He then made sure he thanked his fiancee, 44, before leaving the stage. It was so cute. Plus, it was the first time Usher acknowledged his engagement!
Trey Songz Performs Usher’s ‘Nice & Slow’
Following his speech, Trey Songz appeared on stage and performed his own rendition of “Nice & Slow,” Usher’s first Billboard 100 No. 1 single, which he released in 1998.
And yes, that was Bobby Brown who handed Usher his award. The event was taped on Jan. 24, one week before his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was found unconscious in her bathtub.
