So heartbreaking. Former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson took to his Facebook page on Feb. 17 to share the tragic news that his son, who was just seven years old, had lost his battle with cancer.
Adrian Peterson‘s son A.J. passed away early on the morning of Feb. 17 after being diagnosed with an inoperable brainstem tumor in June 2014, when he was six years old.
Adrian Peterson’s Son Dead: Former NFL Star’s Son, 7, Dies After Cancer Battle
Adrian took to Facebook shortly after A.J. passed away to deliver the heartbreaking news, writing: “#Ajsoars is in Heaven, where he belongs…#ajsoars #P3 #MyFirstSuperHero”. The grieving father also changed his Facebook picture to one of him tenderly cradling his son in his arms.
A.J. had been fighting a brave battle with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, an inoperable brainstem tumor, for the past seven months before he passed away. Adrian and his family received tons of prayers and support from friends, family and fans as they shared details about A.J.’s condition on social media in the months leading up to the child’s sad passing. The Peterson family also raised $40,000 to cover A.J.’s medical expenses, according to WSB-TV.
Hopefully Adrian will take some small comfort in knowing that the Make-A-Wish Foundation helped make little A.J.’s dream come true by arranging for him to be named an honorary officer with the Round Lake Police Department in Illinois in February 2015.
Adrian’s Amazing Charity Work
This tragedy leads us to the age-old hypothetical question, why do bad things happen to such good people? On his spare time, Adrian performs community work and hosts an annual free youth football camp. Also, because of his struggles due to his speech impediment, Adrian volunteers his spare time to help children who also face the same challenge.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Adrian during this very difficult time.
