Four months after the remains of Hannah Graham were discovered, suspect Jesse Matthew, who was charged with her abduction and been in custody since Sept. 2014, has now been indicted with her murder.
Prosecutors in Virginia may finally have the evidence they needed to charge suspect Jesse Matthew, 32, with the murder of 18-year-old college student, Hannah Graham. On Feb. 10, Albermarle Co. Commonwealth’s Attorney, Denise Lundsford, confirmed Jesse had been charged with first-degree murder, but refused to discuss any evidence about the horrific crime.
Hannah Graham: Jesse Matthew Charged With Murder
After months of silence in the case of Hannah Graham’s death, the charges against the one and only suspect, Jesse Matthew, have escalated.
Jesse has been charged with first degree murder, confirmed the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Denise Lundsford. on a live stream that aired on WTVR, a local CBS news affiliate in the Charlottesville, Va. area.
In Sept. 2014, Jesse was arrested after being charged with abduction and intent to defile Hannah, and during the press conference the attorney confirmed that this charge still stands.
Jesse currently faces up to 20 years in prison for Hannah’s murder, if found guilty. However, Denise did confirm that his murder charge was NOT a capitol charge — which means he will not face the death penalty.
Just one month after Jesse’s arrest, the remains of Hannah were found 12 miles from her college campus on an abandoned property. So sad for her family and friends who were desperate to find her up until the very end.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Hannah Graham during this difficult time.
Jesse Connected To Another Missing Woman
In a shocking twist, Jesse has also been connected to the 2009 disappearance of Morgan Harrington, 20, whose remains were discovered just 6 miles from Hannah’s.
Morgan, a student at the University of Virginia, went missing after leaving a concert alone and was last seen walking along a bridge not too far from the venue. Sadly, she was never seen or heard from again.
In 2014, five years after she went missing, Jesse’s DNA was allegedly found on the Pantera t-shirt that Morgan was wearing the night she went missing.
He has remained in police custody since Sept 2014 due to even more shocking charges after he allegedly attacked and raped another woman in 2005. Those charges include attempted capital murder, rape, and sexual assault charges — and he begins a trial for that case on March 9, 2015.
