‘The Walking Dead’ is finally back! Prior to the winter premiere, which airs on Feb. 8, we spoke EXCLUSIVELY to the show’s all-important makeup artist about bringing those zombies to life… Well, death.
The Walking Dead, which returns to AMC on Feb. 8, would be nothing without Greg Nicotero, who heads up the series’ special effects makeup and literally brings the dead to life. Prior to the big premiere, we chatted EXCLUSIVELY with Greg about the return and when we can expect to see more of those fan favorite tribute zombies!
‘The Walking Dead’: Tribute Zombies Returning In Winter Premiere?
For fans of Walking Dead, tribute zombies are a definite highlight of the series.
So, when the undead drama returns, can we expect to see some more of them?
“I love the tribute zombies that we do,” Greg told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “There’s a couple good ones coming up, I have three good ones coming up: Episodes nine, 12, 16.”
Even though Greg didn’t reveal specifics as to what the tributes will be paid to, it’s exciting to know they’re in the works!
For those who don’t know, “tribute zombies” is a Walking Dead term for zombies designed specifically to pay homage to well known horror films of the past. Standouts have included walkers stylized in tribute to Day of the Dead and American Werewolf in London.
‘You Never Forget Your first’
Along with Greg, we also spoke EXCLUSIVELY with series star David Morrissey who, as we know, portrays the big bad guy, The Governor. David revealed to us which death on the series has been his favorite and his answer is, surprisingly, much more fun than you might expect.
“You never forget your first,” David said. “My first zombie kill was amazing. It was only about my second day. It was a guy who’d been sliced in half by a helicopter. I had to put a knife in his head and twist it. It was amazing.”
“Amazing” is certainly one way to describe it!
Who’d been your favorite tribute zombie? Are you excited for The Walking Dead to return?
