In her new memoir ‘Straight Walk’, Patricia publicly announces that she is gay. She admits that facing her past was difficult, but knew she had to tell the truth for her daughter’s sake.
Patricia Velasquez, 44, has made one brave decision. The former supermodel and The Mummy star has come out as gay in her memoir, Straight Walk: A Supermodel’s Journey to Finding Her Truth. In a new interview, she reveals that it wasn’t until she was teaching her daughter to be “honest and proud” that she gathered up the courage to make the announcement in her memoir.
Patricia Velasquez Comes Out As Gay In New Memoir
“It’s very difficult to face your past, so I put off doing anything like this for a long time,” Patricia told Yahoo! Parenting when promoting her memoir. “But as my daughter started growing up and I was teaching her to be honest and proud, I knew it was time for me to set an example—and that meant facing my truth. For me, living life with truth and honesty is the one thing I want to make sure she understands.”
Patricia’s daughter, Maya, 8, whom she shares with her ex partner, Lauren, was the inspiration behind her book.
In the memoir, Patricia writes about multiple past partners. She reveals she was once “in love” with a woman named Sandra. Patricia is currently in a relationship with a woman named Ileanna. She is from Venezuela like Patricia and they’ve been together for the past year.
Patricia has walked the runway for Chanel, Gucci, and Carolina Herrera. She has also modeled for Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated. She appeared as Anck-Su-Namun in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.
We commend Patricia for being so brave and vocal about her sexuality. She is an inspiration to us all.
