Lance Bass is now proud to be a married man, but not too long ago, he hid the truth from the world. In this clip for his upcoming wedding special, Lance reveals why he waited so long to come out, and the reason might shock you!
On his wedding special Lance Loves Michael, which airs on Feb. 5, Lance Bass is flaunting his love with now husband Michael Turchin to the world. However, Lance hasn’t always been so open. In fact, back in his ‘N Sync days, Lance hid his homosexuality out of fear that, if his group members found out, they would “hate” him.
‘Lance Loves Michael’ Sneak — Lance Bass Fears Of Coming Out
“I knew my whole life I was gay,” Lance says in this clip for his upcoming E! special Lance Loves Michael.
And even so, he wasn’t comfortable coming out publicly until 2006 at the age of 26. So, what gave him such hesitancy?
“I was afraid to tell anyone, mainly because of ‘N Sync,” Lance Says. “If I told one person, I knew someone would tell someone else and it would go around and the group would be over. The guys would hate me and they would leave the group.”
While there’s no way of knowing how Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone and the rest of the group would have reacted had he come out back then, it’s heartbreaking to think Lance felt like he’d be hated for being truthful.
‘I Love Being Able To Live The Life That I Live Now’
Lance is certainly in a much more honest and proud place in his life now than he was back then, and his happiness can totally be felt in the clip.
“I love being able to live the life that I live now,” Lance says. “Being able to bring my soulmate, Michael, home to Mississippi and my friends and family treat him as family to them… It’s just an amazing feeling.”
Aw! He’s literally beaming. Even though it took him a little while, we love that Lance is open and so happy these days.
Will you tune into Lance Loves Michael?
