‘The Blacklist’ is back! Following the Super Bowl, NBC aired its midseason premiere of the hit series, and the episode was almost as action packed as the game itself!
In case you didn’t know, there was a little football game on television on Feb. 1. That was all well and good, but some of us were far more excited by what followed: The Blacklist‘s midseason premiere, which not only saw Red (James Spader) find himself in the perils of danger via an eminent missile attack, but also introduced a new villain who seems like he’ll pose more than a few problems.
‘The Blacklist’: New Villain On Midseason Premiere
Sure, there was a rivalry on the field, but there was also one off of it, and it seems quite a bit more dangerous.
On The Blacklist midseason premiere, a new set of enemies emerged in the form of Red and Luther Braxton (guest star Ron Perlman), who happens to be no. 21 on The Blacklist and who has also managed to finagle his way out of solitary confinement from a way off-site facility known as The Factory.
So who is Luther and what does he want to do with Red? Well it’s kinda complicated.
We don’t yet know specifically what the feud between he and Red is, but we do know that Luther is a thief who strategizes his heists to take place during hectic times (whatever that means), and we know that he’s to blame for several of the resulting casualties from when Red went head to head with the villain in Belgrade all that time ago.
Luther Braxton’s Motives
So we know Luther is a big bad baddy, but what does he even want from Red– and by extension, Elizabeth (Megan Boone)?
Well, unsurprisingly, it has to do with The Fulcrum (which, as we know, if in the wrong hands, could prove the existence of the secret organization that could essentially lead to major destruction for national security).
Braxton wants The Fulcrum. Red and Liz need to make sure he doesn’t get The Fulcrum. Neither sides’ efforts go off without severe thwarting.
The episode was intense to say the least, and matters were far from resolved as it wrapped. The good news is, NBC will air the follow up to the two-part premiere on Thursday Feb. 5, in which we may see the the rivalry of Luther and Red come to a climactic head.
What did you think of Luther? Are you excited that ‘The Blacklist’ is back?
