Way to go, Ashley Wagner! The Olympic figure skater easily nabbed her third U.S. title and set a new scoring record. Bow down.
Ashley Wagner, 23, is feeling pretty good right about now. She skated right over her competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 24 to claim her third U.S. title. She beat defending champion Gracie Gold by a whopping 15 points! Someone’s got their eyes on the Olympic prize!
Ashley Wagner Wins U.S. Championship In Figure Skating
Even with the addition of two new combinations to her long program, Ashley annihilated the competition at the U.S. Championships. She easily landed both combinations, which added up to seven triples.
This was her first win at the U.S. Championships since 2013. She had previously won in 2012 as well.
Ashley was so proud of her success and told her haters to take a step back.
“This is the one that shows every single person that doubts me, every single person that says I’m too old, every single person that says I’m not capable of being a leading lady — this shows them that they need to shut their mouths and watch me skate.”
Ashley is obviously looking to redeem herself after the 2014 Winter Olympics. She may have gone home with a bronze medal in the team event, but her competitive nature has her wanting a gold medal.
There’s three more years left until the next Winter Olympics, but Ashley is already showing she’s a force to be reckoned with.
