Tom Brady denied his team broke any rules, but the New England Patriots have been accused of deflating 11 out of 12 game balls used during the AFC Championship game. And many football fans are demanding they be disqualified from the Super Bowl! Will they be? Here’s what we know.
Tom Brady & New England Patriots Disqualified From Super Bowl? — Deflate-Gate
The team is being accused of deflating 11 of 12 balls in the Jan. 18 game, reported by ESPN, which is a major violation and likely had an affect on the game.
Even though Tom Brady took the stage at a live press conference on Jan. 22 and answered any questions about #DeflateGate, while denying the team did anything wrong, football fans still aren’t convinced.
In fact, they want the team to be disqualified from the Super Bowl. But can it actually happen? Probably not. It just doesn’t seem realistic, according to USA Today writer Chris Chase. He said:
“The penalty should be simple: Ban ‘em.”
“Of course, it’s not realistic to disqualify New England from the Super Bowl. What’s the NFL going to do, bring back the Colts to replace them? Hold a loser-bracket between Denver and Indianapolis? That’s not feasible. Just because the Pats should be DQ’d doesn’t mean they will or could.”
“But, again, they should. The evidence is all there, assuming Chris Mortensen’s report is correct. Former NFL referee Gerry Austin was on Mike and Mike this morning and said officials check the PSI of all footballs two hours before the game. At halftime, New England’s footballs (each team has different balls during the game) were found to be two-to-three pounds lighter. Someone deflated the balls. There’s no debate here.”
