Talent really is genetic! Well, the most recent episode of ‘American Idol’ certainly made it seem so. When auditions made their way to New Orleans, one contestant stood out for a reason other than his stellar voice. Check him out!
Like uncle like nephew, right? Okay that’s not actually an expression, but it should be judging by Adam Lasher‘s American Idol audition on Jan. 22. The singer and guitar player was certainly oozing natural talent, but he may have learned a thing or two from his uncle, one Mr. Carlos Santana–and Jennifer Lopez definitely took note!
‘American Idol’: Carlos Santana’s Nephew Auditions
When Idol arrived in New Orleans, the talent was fierce and there were definitely some standouts– looking at you, Jelly Joseph and Erica Washington! Adam, though, had a secret weapon to help set himself apart: yup, his uncle Carlos.
“Did the master teach you how to play?” Ryan Seacrest asked Adam before he stepped into the audition room.
“I’d say so,” Adam replied. “[Carlos] seems like a Jedi with a guitar,” he added.
Before the familial connection was made, though, JLo actually thought Adam might have had a different famous relative.
“Do you ever get that you look like Jimmy Fallon?” Jennifer asked, noticeably a little smitten with the handsome singer. The resemblance was so uncanny, that the judges proceeded to call him “Jimmy” for the remainder of his audition.
But once Adam started singing, Carlos’s influence was evident. He crooned an original tune and, of course, accompanied himself on the guitar– despite the fact that he was sporting a cumbersome cast on his right hand!
More To Come From Adam
According to Adam’s official website, his passion for music began when he was five years old with the piano, but did not truly take off until he was 11 and discovered his love for the guitar.
Following the episode’s airing, Adam wrote on Twitter, “Thank you everyone and especially @AmericanIdol ! My hearts is on overload from all the love I have received! See yea in Hollywood!”
Yes we will see you in Hollywood, Adam!
What did you guys think of Adam’s audition? Could you feel Carlos’ influence?
