OMG! We can barely believe what happened on the Jan. 22 episode of ‘Project Runways All Stars.’ Another contestant get sent home — someone we would have never guessed — and this week’s challenge had a surprising twist!
On the January 22 episode of Project Runway All Stars, Alyssa steps out on the runway to inform the designers that the competition this week is all business — they are going to be working with QVC on a separates challenge. The looks must be interchangeable and practical — a far cry from last week’s avant-garde challenge! In true All Stars fashion, Alyssa adds a twist: the designers must also design a more high-fashion version of their look, which they will send down the runway on another model. It may seem like a tough challenge, but it will be quite rewarding to the winner; QVC is going to sell one of the separates they design.
‘Project Runway All Stars’ — January 22 Recap
With a budget of $300 for both looks and the opportunity for major exposure on the line, the designers get to work. While some designers can’t wait to craft separates, others are really challenged by the task at hand — we can’t wait to see what they come up with!
Helen seems to be having the hardest time, especially because she is so used to designing gowns — she says it is like being in “fashion purgatory.”
After a visit from Zanna, the designers take a break from crafting their creations to go watch Alyssa and the crew ring the bell at Nasdaq in Times Square — and they’re in for a major treat when they see the Project Runway name blown up. It was such an exciting, emotional moment.
Back at the workroom, the designers fit their models.
Since there are only six designers left, this week everyone will receive a critique.
I personally could not get enough of Dmitry’s looks. From the bold colors to the way he used neoprene and lace to his attention to detail, I could not get enough of it — and I was so thrilled to see the judges totally love it, too.
Helen’s black dress was a big hit with the judges, even though her two looks didn’t seem cohesive.
While deliberating, the judges agree that Sonija’s separates were the best as far as that category was concerned.
Fabio made his own fabric but his looks still fell flat on the runway. There was nothing high fashion about the dress he crafted, and I couldn’t agree more — although it had to sting when Isaac Mizrahi called his designs “slightly irrelevant.”
Dmitry is safe and the winner will be decided between Helen and Sonjia — in the end, Sonjia’s separates won. Jay and Fabio were in the bottom two, with Alyssa calling Jay his own “worst enemy” — and he was sent home.
Before Fabio could skate by, Isaac Mizrahi called him out for being in the bottom and told him not to do it again — if that won’t serve as a wakeup call, I don’t know what will!
What do you think of the separates challenge?
