Sia took the ‘SNL’ stage on Jan. 17 and delivered a mesmerizing performance of her Grammy nominated hit, ‘Chandelier.’ Watch the chilling performance here!
Sia, 39, is known for putting on a show complete with elaborate costumes and dancers. But when she performed “Chandelier” on Saturday Night Live on Jan. 17, she was pretty much a one-woman show, performing a stripped down, orchestral version of the song with a mime mimicking the emotions.
Sia’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Performance – Sings ‘Chandelier’
Sia, who of course hid her face from the camera by covering up her eyes, sang the emotional ballad amidst an array of beautiful orchestral instruments, which created a moody and atmospheric sound to the already haunting song.
Besides the orchestra, accompanying the singer on stage was a mime who acted out the melancholy lyrics about her struggle with alcohol. Of course, his acting was completely different from Maddie Ziegler from Dance Moms, who stars in the music video with over 400 million views. But the stripped-down version made sense to have a mime carry out the emotional capacity of the song.
Nonetheless, Sia’s SNL performance proved how much talent she has. Not only can she sing, but she still finds ways to make the hit song stay fresh, while managing to evoke the same emotion.
Sia Slams Critics For Crying Pedophilia Over ‘Elastic Heart’
Sia had been under recent light for critics calling her music video for “Elastic Heart”, “pedophilia.” The video stars Maddie, 12, and Shia LaBeouf, 28, who dance inside a cage together in nude bodysuits.
Sia fired back at critics who couldn’t seem to get passed the age difference between Maddie and Shia, and under-looked her art.
“I anticipated some ‘pedophilia!!!’ cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring ‘sia’ self states,” the singer wrote on Twitter on Jan. 7.
