Nina — it must be such a drag to have to go to work every day on the ‘Vampire Diaries’ set with your ex. And even worse when you can’t help running into them during award show season. Here’s how to deal with it.
Nina Dobrev: Don’t Let Your Ex’s Romance Upset You
Yes, when your relationship runs into trouble and then you actually split, there’s just no way that it can’t be awkward — SUPER AWKWARD!
Especially when you play lovers on a hit show. And then double especially when your ex Ian starts dating and then falls head over heels for one of your good friends — Nikki Reed.
Yes, that’s a total burn.
And there’s no way you can avoid him when you have scenes together — even love scenes — and then he even brings Nikki to the set sometimes.
It’s a heartrending situation, which you’ve been dealing with completely professionally.
However, it was still obvious to observers at a Golden Globes after party that it was rough going for you when you ended up in a face -to-face situation with your ex and his new girlfriend.
Unfortunately, you ended up at the same Golden Globes InStyle party and were confronted by Ian and Nikki in full on in love, new couple mode.
“It was really uncomfortable because … Nikki and Ian were glued at the hip and had some serious PDA, kissing throughout the night,” an eyewitness told HollywoodLife.com exclusively.
We can all relate to how awkward that would be, even if you were totally fine about the breakup, and over Ian.
You did what any of us would do: “Nina avoided Ian and Nikki like the plague,” the eyewitness told HollywoodLife.com.
But even though you kept to the opposite side of the party, hanging with your friends, you still ended up running right into the lovebirds.
Of course you were completely polite and said, “Hello,” but it must have been a bummer.
But Nina, here’s what you have to tell yourself.
You are smart, talented, beautiful and have a huge career and life ahead of you.
You are just 26, and the world really is your oyster.
You and Ian had a great relationship for a couple of years, but you realized that you were too young young to settle down. You weren’t ready to make a longterm commitment to Ian, so you two needed to part ways.
Ian at 36, is older and in a different place mentally than you are. Nikki may also feel ready to make a deeper commitment having already been married to Paul MacDonald.
You can’t control that. You were ready to move on from your romance with Ian and so you did what was right for you.
You can’t control what other people — in this case Ian and Nikki — were going to do.
They found each other — through you– and they both needed each other, so they’re happy.
Avoid Ian & Nikki As Much As Possible
Nina– you will find someone who s right for you, when you’re ready to take the relationship step again.
You haven’t been ready yet.
So for now, you just need to conduct yourself with the good grace that you’ve already shown. Do exactly what you did at the InStyle party. Avoid your ex and Nikki as much as you can, but when you do have a run-in, make it quick and be polite.
That way, you and Ian won’t make the situation between you any more difficult than it is.
Just know, that as time passes, and you move on with your life, you’ll be less and less bothered by Nikki and Ian, no matter what course their romance takes.
Do you agree HollywoodLifers — should Nina just continue to keep her cool around Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed? Let me know.
