Rumors of Walter and Jesse appearing on the ‘Breaking Bad’ spinoff’s first season have been put to rest at the Television Critics Association on Jan. 10. We have details into what we can expect on AMC’s ‘Better Call Saul’!
The premiere of Better Call Saul is right around the corner, and we are on the edge of our seats! During the Breaking Bad panel at the Television Critics Association on Jan. 10, executive producer Peter Gould revealed whether or not we can expect to see beloved antihero Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and his protege Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) in the Breaking Bad prequel.
‘Better Call Saul’: Walter White & Jesse Pinkman Appearing on First Season?
Peter revealed that Bryan and Aaron will not appear in season one of Better Call Saul, according to our sister site, Variety — but for good reason.
“We want this show to stand on its own,” Peter said, “Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will not appear in season one.”
Bob Odenkirk, who stars as Saul Goodman, trusts the creative direction that Peter and co-executive producer Vince Gilligan are taking the series in.
“Vince and Peter are the brains behind it, and they’re the brains behind Breaking Bad. Tonally and their expertise are all carried over,” Bob said. “Every time I come in the office, I ask, has Walter White called yet. And Jesse would be in middle school.”
Peter and Vince also touched on how Better Call Saul will be visually different from Breaking Bad, since there will be less action, and time will be a key factor.
“Walter White had a very existential and immediate problem — he was dying of cancer,” says Vince. “We didn’t know how long he would have. We don’t have that issue with Jimmy.”
