Teresa turned herself into federal prison, Jan. 5 to begin her 15 month sentence but a shocking report claims that she lied to her two youngest daughters and told them that she was going to live in prison because she’s writing a book. Do you think she should have told her kids the truth?
Teresa Giudice will spend the next year and three months of her life behind bars but only her two eldest daughters, Gia, 13, and Milania Giudice, 9, know the real reason. Teresa, who spent her final days before jail with her four daughters skiing and going to church, told Gabriella, 8, and Audriana, 3, that she was going on a “work assignment,” not that she had pleaded guilty to defrauding the government of millions of dollars. HollywoodLife.com spoke to Dr. Gilda Carle, a family therapist, who tells us that the RHONJ made a big mistake in keeping the truth from her girls.
Teresa Giudice: Daughters Will Be ‘Angry’ When They Learn Truth About Her Jail Time — Expert Says
Teresa, 42, reportedly told Gabriella and Audriana that she wanted to write another book, this time not about cooking and food but about what it’s like behind bars, and our expert says that’s a huge problem.
“It was a bad idea for Teresa Giudice to keep the truth from her daughters,” Dr. Carle tells us. “Since she’s a public figure, they will eventually find out anyway—from classmates, friends, media, and more. And when they do discover the truth, they’ll be angry at their mom for not leveling with them. Further, they will be reluctant to trust her again. Understandably, she was trying to protect them from thinking ill of their mother, but in the end, they’ll think worse of her for lying.”
Plus, Gia and Milania do know the real reason, so there is no telling if they decide to tell the girls first! Then there’s also her husband, Joe Giudice, who is at home with the girls and he may end up slipping and telling them. But they are so young, would they really understand?
“Teresa won’t be in prison indefinitely. When she does come home, she will have to re-establish a sense of trust from her girls—and trust takes a very long time to build.”
Teresa Enters Prison for 15 Months
Teresa gave herself up to the prison around 3am on Jan. 5 and her attorney said that it went as well as could be expected.
“We took her in the front door,”James J. Leonard Jr. said. “There were several officials from the prison there waiting for us. They were extremely courteous and respectful. They answered a lot of questions that we had — basic questions regarding visitation and access to the telephone and the commissary and things like that. ..They were very respectful and that was it. And then she went into the facility,” he said.
He also added: “She’s never talked about, what is this gonna be like for me. Always her concern is with her children, not with herself.”
When Teresa plead guilty on Oct. 2, she read the following tearful statement: “I fully take responsibility for my actions. I deeply love my family… My four daughters are my life. I wrote this last night because I knew I was going to be nervous … I’m scared, I’m not going to deny it, I’m really scared.”I have heard you. I need to live to do things for myself. It’s time for me to wake up … I will make this right no matter what it takes.”
HollywoodLifers, do you think Teresa should have been honest with all of her children?
