Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice! Tim Burton just confirmed that yes, he is working on the sequel to the 1988 hit movie — and yes, many members of the original cast will be back.
Tim Burton is pretty much inseparable from Michael Keaton these days, and after the promotions for Big Eyes and the award-circuit for Birdman ends, that relationship will continue. On. Dec. 15, the famed director and producer sat down for an interview and revealed that the long-awaited sequel is happening. Watch the interview below.
‘Beetlejuice 2’ Coming Soon
“Oh yeah,” Tim told MTV when he was asked if he’d be directing Beetlejuice 2. And we can assume that Michael Keaton will reprise his role as the star, yes?
“I’ll put it this way — there’s only on Beetlejuice for sure,” Tim said. “I haven’t really spoken to him yet, because he’s out on his awards campaign so I can’t really get to him now.” That makes sense since Birdman received 13 Critics’ Choice noms and seven Golden Globe noms!
Winona Ryder Will 100 Percent Be Back
So, what about Winona Ryder? Because, let’s be honest — Beetlejuice just wouldn’t be the same without her.
“Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah,” Tim said (yes, nine times). “I worked with [Ryder], I hadn’t seen her in awhile… and she was so great. I was so happy to see her. So those kinds of elements mean something to me. Michael, and her… and that character, I just miss it, there’s some freedom about that character that I love.”
Tim recently directed The Killers‘ music video for “Here with Me,” which starred Winona. Clearly, that won back his heart.
Well, we’re sold — are you? Do you want a sequel? Watch the interview below, then let us know!
