No matter what, we are never emotionally prepared for TV deaths. This year has featured jaw-dropping send-offs for some of our most beloved characters.
Let’s just take a moment to remember the lives we lost on the television screen this year. Revenge, Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars have all had shocking deaths of major characters. Grab your tissues, and let’s take a look back at some of the most tragic TV scenes in 2014.
Daniel Grayson Dies On ‘Revenge’
We sort of saw the deaths of faux-Amanda, Conrad (Henry Czerny) and Aiden (ahem, The Whispers) coming, but we never thought the show would actually kill off Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman).
But Revenge went there.
In the final moments of the season 4 midseason finale, Daniel was shot by Agent Kate as he attempted to protect Emily (Emily VanCamp). Ugh, I’m still devastated. Daniel and Emily had finally gotten to a good place, and I even thought they had a chance at rekindling their romance. There was still so much story left to tell with Daniel.
Couldn’t they have at least killed off Charlotte (Christa B. Allen) or Margaux (Karine Vanasse) first?!
Nevertheless, Daniel is gone for good. Josh had been gunning for Daniel’s death since season three. (No!)
Emily needs to book it out of the Hamptons ASAP. Not for her sake, but for Jack’s. If Jack dies, I’m gone.
‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘The Walking Dead’ & More Shocking Send-Offs
Over in Westeros, we finally saw the end of Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) this season. We definitely saw it coming, but to watch that little dweeb choke to death from poison at his own wedding was pretty tough to watch. I will never be able to unsee Joffrey’s final breath.
Possibly the most unexpected death on television this year was Will Gardner’s on The Good Wife. Actor Josh Charles had expressed his interest in leaving the show, but I couldn’t believe they killed him off in such a bloody way. He was the love of Alicia’s (Julianna Marguiles) life, and now he is just gone. Don’t even get me started on his last call to Alicia.
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead is known for killing off major characters, but Beth’s (Emily Kinney) death couldn’t have been more shocking. She was shot by Dawn in front of Daryl (Norman Reedus), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of the gang. Watching Daryl carry poor Beth’s body out of the hospital nearly broke me.
Rest in peace, Daniel, Beth, Will and all the characters featured in our gallery. But not you, Joffrey.
