Oh no! The Sony hack revealed that if Marvel makes a deal with Sony for creative control, it’s most likely farewell to the beloved Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, along with many of the other ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ stars.
The Sony hack continues to reveal more, and sadly, if you love Andrew Garfield, 30, it’s not good news. The latest information obtained by the security breach revealed that Marvel wants complete creative control of the Spider-Man franchise, meaning they would ditch Andrew and start over with a clean slate.
Andrew Garfield: Fired From Spider-Man? Sony Hack Reveals He May Be Let Go
The email chain obtained revealed that Marvel and Sony are in talks over a 60/40 deal for the rights to the Spider-Man franchise.
“Marvel’s not inclined to give Sony creative control over the character, nor [are they] planning on honoring the contracts with Sony’s Spider-Stars,” according to the Latino Review, who first reported the news.
If the deal goes through it looks like we would be saying goodbye not just to Andrew, but other stars in the film as well. It basically gives Marvel a complete do-over on the project.
Of course, Marvel’s reasoning for wanting the control is because they were not happy with the flop of the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. In an attempt to reboot Spider-Man and rebuild the franchise to the hype it was, Marvel wants their characters back for a fresh start. Marvel was also reportedly unhappy with Sony’s apparent plans for further Spider-Man films.
“More poking into the origins of the Aunt May solo film and Female Spider movie rumors revealed that these were actual Sony Picture Entertainment plans that Marvel knew about and severely disliked. Now that Marvel can have the rights to the character back, they plan to wipe the slate with the Amazing Spider-Man universe,” the site reported.
