‘Dancing with the Stars’ has lost a judge. Len Goodman, whose been sitting at the table since 2005, just announced that next season would be his last. So sad!
One of our favorite judges is officially on his way out. While promoting the UK version of Dancing with the Stars, Strictly Come Dancing, Len Goodman, 70, told press over the weekend that after ten years as a judge on Dancing with the Stars, he has decided to leave. Is that why the show brought in Julianne Hough last year?
Len Goodman Leaving ‘Dancing with the Stars’
“Next year, I’m not going to do the flying backwards and forwards—I’m not going to do the American show…I’ve got to have a bit of time off,” Len told DigitalSpy.com while promoting the UK series Strictly Come Dancing. “I’ve got my wife, I’ve got my son, my mother is still alive and she’s in hospital – I’ve had virtually no time to go and visit her. So, I just need a bit of time off to get on with a normal life. And it was either Strictly went or the American one went or the tour went… I’m doing the spring one when I go out there… and that’s going to be my last one.”
He also added that next year is the tenth year for DWTS, so after that, he will be done.
“It’s the 20th series of the show. So I think that’s a nice place to stop,” he added. He has been a judge on the show since its beginning, sitting alongside Carrie Ann Inuba and Bruno Tonioli since 2005. The year before that, he began hosting the UK version.
Julianne Hough Taking His Spot?
Does that mean that the other judges will change? Well, not really.
“I’d imagine Bruno will still do it. But he’s ten years younger than me,” he joked. “Listen, let me tell you that without Strictly coming along 10 years ago when I was 60 years old – without them coming along and asking me to be one of the judges, I would never have done anything. I’d never have done the American show, I’d never do other little things that I’ve done. And so I feel a loyalty towards the BBC. I will do Strictly as long as they want me. Eventually, they will say, ‘He’s getting too old and fat now, Goodman, we’ll have to get shot of him’. But all the time they would like me to do it, I will be doing it.”
However, the team at ABC were aware that Len may be quitting the show, which helped to influence their decision to bring on Julianne Hough last year, E! News reported. ABC did not want to comment on the interview.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you sad to see Len go?
