Idina Menzel On ‘Frozen’s Elsa: Singer Believes She & Queen Are ‘The Same’
Despite her beautiful voice and award-winning acting abilities, Idina didn’t always believe in herself. The New York native not only doubted her destiny to become a shining star, but she also was afraid to stand out!
“Much like her cartoon incarnation, who is forced to keep her freezing powers under wraps, Menzel spent her teenage years hiding her ability from friends,” writes the UK’s Daily Mail.
“I didn’t want to stand out. I didn’t want other girls to be envious of me — or not like me,” Idina tells The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.
Thankfully, Idina eventually got over her fear of being “too big and too loud,” just like her cartoon counterpart did in Frozen!
Idina Menzel & Queen Elsa Let Go Of Fears
Fortunately for Frozen fans, Idina began to let her fears go in 1996, after her first big break in the original production of Rent. Her subsequent Broadway career soared, and she even earned a Tony award for her role in Wicked.
So can we expect the mega hit Frozen to return to the silver screen and and stage?
Idina accidentally prompted rumors that a Frozen sequel was in the works based on her sheer excitement about potentially reprising her role of Elsa! During her Dec. 1. appearance on the Today show, she clarified her hopeful comments that she would become the Snow Queen once again in a Frozen sequel.
“You know, I have no idea,” she said. “I just assumed that because it’s so successful that’s what they’re up to.”
Indeed, the film became a worldwide success overnight and went on to become the fifth-highest grossing film of all time!
All the while, Idina and Elsa are both encouraging young girls to embrace who they are and pursue their passions!
