Janay Rice made a shocking confession when sat down with Matt Lauer on the ‘Today’ show Monday, Dec. 1: she has never watched the infamous elevator video, showing her being attached by her husband, Ray Rice.
It was the shot heard around the world, but Ray Rice‘s wife Janay Rice, 26, hasn’t even seen her very own assault video, and in her first sit-down interview since the February scandal, she tearfully admitted that she refuses to ever watch because it’s too painful, but defended Ray, 27, saying he has only hit her one time. Janay Rice On The ‘Today Show: ‘I Refuse’ To Watch Assault Video
Janay made her first televised appearance on the Today show, the morning of Monday, Dec. 1, to tell her side of the story, now that her husband, Ray, has been reinstated into the NFL, as of Friday, Nov. 27.
Janay defended her husband, who was cut from the Baltimore Ravens after the scandal, and revealed that she has never seen the second segment of the disturbing video, which shows Ray socking her, although she has seen the first part, in which he drags her unconscious body out of an elevator like an animal.
“I refuse,” she told Matt Lauer. “I’m not going to let the public bring me back there.”
Although she hasn’t seen the video, Janay admitted that she did question her husband about the incident. “I asked him, ‘Why did you leave me there?’ He said he was terrified, he was in such shock that this had just happened, he didn’t know how to function at that point.”
Janay Rice Defends Ray Rice — Insists He’s Only Hit Her Once
Janay told Matt that the national scandal was the only time Ray has ever laid a hand on her, and she alludes that he would never hit her again.
“There’s no way,” she said. “He knows what he’d have to deal with. I’m not going to sit there in silence and let something happen to me. And, God forbid, in front of my child. No way.”
She adds, “I think everybody makes mistakes…After this whole situation, you would think we’re a country full of people who never make mistakes, who’ve never sinned ever in their lives.”
Janay Rice Admits ‘He Was Wrong’
After the video leaked, Janay shocked the world by defending her husband on Instagram. During her Today interview, she explained why she publicly apologized when she was the victim of abuse.
“I was basically, not doing what I was told, but at the same time I didn’t think it was completely wrong for me to apologize, because at the end of the day I got arrested, too, so I did something wrong, too.”
However, she doesn’t take full blame. “Not taking any light off of what Ray did because I agree with everybody else. He was wrong.”
In another interview, released on Nov. 28, Janay gave an account of the violent night in Atlantic City to ESPN, in which she detailed the attack, saying that the entire time in the elevator is “foggy,” as the couple had been heavily drinking and fighting beforehand. She does not remember what their fight was about.
HollywoodLifers, do you believe that Janay hasn’t seen the video? Do you think she should be defending Ray on national TV or is she being too apologetic, since she’s the victim? Let us know.
