Carrie was totally in her element when she took the stage to perform her hit songs ‘Change’ and ‘Something in the Water’ at the World AIDS Day concert in New York City on Dec. 1. We love that she put her talents to work for this very worthy cause!
Carrie Underwood, 31, was one of several huge stars who was asked to perform at Bono‘s World AIDS Day concert after he suffered serious injuries from a bike accident in NYC a couple weeks ago. While the U2 frontman was definitely missed at his special charity event, we couldn’t get enough of Carrie’s beautiful, haunting performances of “Change” and “Something in the Water.”
Carrie Underwood At World AIDS Day: Her Amazing Performance In New York City
Carrie wowed the crowd with her moving performances of “Change” and “Something in the Water” in New York City’s Times Square on Dec. 1.
Carrie was the perfect choice for the concert and we love that she selected such meaningful songs to perform.
The concert also featured incredible performances from Kanye West, as well as Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin, who both filled in for Bono in U2 Minus 1. What a wonderful show!
U2’s Bono: ‘This Year Is A World AIDS Day Like No Other’
Bono must have been super disappointed that he couldn’t perform at the show due to his injuries, but we know this event still meant the world to him.
“This year is a World AIDS Day like no other,” the U2 frontman said in a statement issued from Dublin before the concert. “The world reached a tipping point in the fight against AIDS — more people were newly added to life-saving treatment than were newly infected with the virus. A lot of people are calling it the beginning of the end of AIDS.”
“We wouldn’t be at this point without American leadership, people from the left and the right,” he added. “Today, 13 million people have access to life-saving treatment, up from 300,000 just over ten years ago. Americans don’t know the role they’ve played in this fight. Tonight’s event is to inform them and thank them.”
