Do you know what DUFF stands for? “Designated Ugly Fat Friend.” No, seriously. The comedy takes high school cliques to a whole new level with hilarious one-liners and an awesome cast, including Bella Thorne who plays the queen bee.
‘The Duff’: First Trailer With Bella Thorne & Robbie Amell
We’ve found our modern day Mean Girls and She’s All That, combined into one fetch flick.
The Duff, based on the teen novel by Kody Keplinger, follows the school’s resident DUFF (designated ugly fat friend) played by Parenthood‘s Mae Whitman, as she sparks a social revolution, after learning from the high school’s hottest jock (Robbie Amell, The Flash, Pretty Little Liars) that she’s been played for years by her “friends,” the popular clique.
So what’s the point of a DUFF, you may ask? “Every group of friends has one,” as stated in the trailer above. “The one who doesn’t look as good, thus making their friends look better. The one who’s easy to talk to cuz no one’s trying to get with them.”
Bianca (Mae) teams up with Wesley (Robbie) to reverse-DUFF her. The catch? She helps him pass science and he helps land her a hot date.
Of course, there are obstacles along the way, thanks to the mean girls, Madison (Bella), Jess (Skyler Samuels, American Horror Story) and Casey (Bianca A. Santos, The Fosters).
The film, set to hit theaters in February 2015, also stars Allison Janney and Ken Jeong.
