So sad. Diem Brown passed away on Nov. 14 after her long battle with cancer. The 32-year-old rose to fame on MTV’s ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge.’
Diem Brown will always be known as one of the most courageous. After her original battle with cancer in 2006, she founded MedGift, a support registry for those suffering with any illnesses. She passed away surrounded by her family in New York City.
Diem Brown Dead At 32
On Nov. 12, she tweeted out a plea to her fans, writing, “I NEED PRAyErs and advice my doctors are seemingly giving up but I won’t & can’t rollover. Whatever option I have to LIVE I’m grabbing!… Need prayers, advice, support & outreach. No is not an option.”
Her friends, including Alicia Quarles and MTV’s CT Tamburello had also been very public about getting help, doing everything possible to do so.
“I want people to know that the fight is worth it,” she told People in October. “And that’s something that’s so important for me.”
“It’s my personal perspective that you live as hard and as vigorously as you can,” she also said last month. “My goals are something I believe in, because I believe I’m going to make it. I’m going to have a family and get married and the whole American, 2½ kids, white-picket fence dream. It’s something that’s really important to me, because it means a long-term future.”
CT posted a photo on Instagram of Diem on Nov. 5, writing, “There is nothing more delightful then an honest smile when having an awful day. To feel a cool breeze flowing over your body in the burning heat. To see the sun shining bright through the pouring rain and to have a friend who tells you that nothing comes close by any of them then you…” -A.F Your smile can change the world. It’s not the other way around… @diembrown#myly #strongereveryday Feel free to check out her support page and help keep a smile on her face! #MedGift.”
Diem’s Long Battle
Diem made her premiere on MTV’s Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat in 2006 when she revealed that she was diagnosed with Ovarian cancer. She finished the Challenge and upon returning home, she had to have one ovary, several lymph nodes and part of her fallopian tube removed at that time. She then did another Challenge, The Duel and even fell in love with contestant, C.T. In 2012, her cancer returned, and she began battling again, proving how strong she was.
She chronicled it all in a People blog, staying positive and determined to never give up. After chemotherapy, she went into remission in early 2013. Only two weeks later she went on another MTV challenge, Rivals II, to prove her strength when doctors had told her “seeing 2013 was not that likely.”
In August 2014, Diem was filming her eighth Challenge in Panama and collapsed on set; she was flew to NY and was diagnosed with colon cancer. In October, Diem revealed that the cancer had spread from in her stomach and colon to her lymph nodes and her liver.
HollywoodLife.com is keeping Diem’s family and friends in our prayers.
